SHARPENING
Other than comfort
& contouring, properly sharpened skates are critical. Again
many factors should be considered.

Although most pro
shops attempt a quality job of sharpening, most do not fully
understand how skates should be sharpened. In addition, their
main business is to sell products and the sharpening is a way
to get you back into the store. How many times have you gone
into a shop and seen 10 pairs of skates lined up in front of
yours and thought to yourself, "uh oh" what are my edges going
to feel like when I hit the ice?
More importantly,
if you're having your child skates sharpened they might
not even be able to tell you what they feel like.
We understand and
can appreciate this scenario since we've heard it explained
numerous times from our customers.
Good quality edges
are based on grinding a hollow that allows the player to
accomplish the following items:
 |
Good Edge Control
|
 |
Glide, increases
speed & quickness
|
 |
Ability to stop
using a slide without chatter
|
Although we will
provide a hollow based on your preference we've found that
most players achieve the greatest benefit by using a 1/2" or
larger hollow. This reduces fatigue since the player
establishes more glide and efficiency when in stride and far
less fatigue when stopping.
